The School of Prayer is a ministry of the Vineyard Community Church that meets most Saturday evenings at 6:30 PM in the Upper Room. The School of Prayer meeting will finish at 7:25PM in the Upper Room and then reconvene at 7:30PM for the extended worship time in the auditorium.
“Fulfill the great commandment in order to live a life of doing the next right thing and reaching just one more for His Kingdom and glory”
We live in a great hour in the church’s history. The mandate being trumpeted in our day is the truth of Isaiah 56:7, “Even those I will bring to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be acceptable on My altar, for my house will be called a house of prayer for all the peoples.” This passage communicates God’s desire that His church be characterized by being a place of prayer. With the School of Prayer we are working to see the manifestation of a powerful prayer presence raised up in the heart of the Florida Keys.
We also sense a clear mandate not only to pray, but to act upon what we hear in prayer. Daniel 11:32 says, “Those that know their God shall be strong and carry out great exploits.” It is our desire that School of Prayer participants actively serve the vision of the Vineyard Church Big Pine Key through giving and works of service to reach our community by doing “the next right thing” – the goal being “just one more” soul reached for the King and His Kingdom.
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength”
Listed below are a few of the basic foundational forms/types of prayer we use, although there are times we may vary away from these forms. The specific details of each type of prayer will be detailed in training.
I. Worship with the Word (Harp and Bowl)
This type of prayer is taken from Revelation 5:8. Prayer leader will be responsible for communicating to the worship leader the scripture passage focus for the evening. The scripture passage focus will be determined from a list of approved passages given to School of Prayer participants.
II. Prayer Stations
Specific topics of prayer are stationed around the prayer room allowing prayer team members to move freely about focusing on each topic for as long or as little as they desire.
III. Spoken Word
Prayer team members choose a specific book or passage in the Bible and read the passage out loud.
Soaking prayer is simply basking in the presence of God. A host will be present to make sure that everything is set up and in place at the prayer stations for anyone attending. An instrumental CD of worship music is played and no one prays on the microphone. This is a time to spend intimate time with Father, study, rest, meditate, or pray at the prayer stations. The hosts’ responsibility is simply to be available if anyone in attendance has any questions (i.e. restrooms, prayer stations, etc).
