One of the fundamental purposes of the Bible being written is to retell the story of how God is at work to rescue His people. First mention of writing the Bible in the Bible is Exodus 17: 8-9, 14. The second mention is also from Moses in the book of Exodus but at the foot of Mount Sinai. First Mention: The Bible is a text telling the story of…

I think it’s incredible to know that the Bible exists in the world but also came to the world through supernatural means and thinking about it as a divine/heavenly/spiritual force entering our human/Earthly/physical world is nothing short of extraordinary. It can’t be explained through normal human processes. The human history of the Bible IS…

I am always amazed that each time I read my Bible whether it be a chapter, passage, or verse I learn something new. I am truly fascinated by this course so far because there is so much rich knowledge in the way that these scrolls were written that gives amazing insight or correlation to things that seemed scattered to me or hard to piece…

It is interesting that so much context is given, hyperlinks etc, and then in Deuteronomy the last chapter there is no context but the author changes and the language is past tense and from the future. It goes from Moses being the author to a question mark. No prophet has arisen like Moses as of now, because the history isn’t complete! Important…

I think it is incredible that we can see these scrolls from the Dead Sea and even zoom in virtually to see the seams on where they sewed the leather together on the scrolls. This speaks so much to the technology of the time and how Jesus would read His scrolls as well. If carefully handled these scrolls can last up to 4-5 generations. The ends…

I think it’s fascrinating that the “Old Testament” is a Christian term and in the Hebrew Bible it is never used and so much of the order of which is spoken in the Bible or by Jesus really gets hidden by the context of the order Jesus was reading scripture in. Jesus and the apostles commonly referred to it as “The Writings” or “The…

Some of the many things I found interesting: The Bible is never called “The Bible”, the most common reference is “The Writings”. The Old Testament is wisdom literature that guides us to an end goal of being rescued- in essence. Jesus is saying if we get that then we unlock how all of these other books are to be read. I think it is very…

I really am interested in the background behind the scriptures and how they are put together but also how in the present time we view the Old Testament. I think it was very interesting to talk about the common ways that it is viewed, particularly the “inspirational” view as I find that to be true among Christians all around me, including myself…
