Kingdom Alignment Part 10

Last week in our Kingdom Alignment series, we explored Jesus’ teaching about God and mammon. We saw that the issue was never simply about money. Mammon represents anything that competes with God for our trust, security, and devotion. Jesus’ words challenged us to ask where our confidence truly rests.
This week we take the next step by asking another important question: What does it look like to live with an undivided heart?
Kingdom Alignment is not ultimately about trying harder or becoming more disciplined through our own effort. It is about becoming people whose hearts are wholly devoted to God.
Psalm 86:11–13 (NIV)
11 Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. 12 I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. 13 For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths, from the realm of the dead.
David prays, “Teach me your way, Lord… give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.” It is one of the most beautiful prayers in Scripture. David does not ask God for greater intelligence, more influence, or greater success. He asks for a heart that is no longer pulled in different directions, a heart fully centered on God.
Over the last three weeks, Jesus has spoken about treasure, vision, and masters in the Sermon on the Mount. At first glance these seem like separate topics, but together they reveal a single theme. Jesus is continually asking, Where is your heart? What do you treasure? How do you see the world? Who ultimately rules your life?
Many of us know what it feels like to live with a divided heart. We genuinely desire to follow Jesus, yet we often look elsewhere for our identity, security, or peace. We trust God in many areas while still trying to maintain control over others. Living this way is exhausting because our hearts are constantly being pulled between competing loyalties.
The wonderful news of the gospel is that Jesus does not simply command us to stop being divided and figure it out on our own. God promises something far greater.
Ezekiel 36:26–27 (NIV)
26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
As we continue our Kingdom Alignment journey, we will discover that an undivided heart is not achieved through human determination but received through God’s transforming grace. The Holy Spirit continually reshapes our desires, aligns our hearts with the Father, and teaches us to live with wholehearted devotion to Jesus.
