Course Description:

Everything Jesus did centered on the great purposes of God. This course analyzes Christ’s objectives for ministry and teaches students to institute management by objectives in their own life and ministry.

Course Objectives:

  • Define “management by objectives.”
  • Summarize the Biblical foundations of planning.
  • Identify God’s purpose.
  • Formulate a Statement of Purpose for ministry.
  • Set ministry objectives.
  • Organize spiritual resources to accomplish objectives.
  • Evaluate your activities to perfect your ministry.
  • Apply “management by objectives” in the local church.
  • Apply “management by objectives” in your personal life and ministry.

Course Requirements:

  • Complete the Study Guide reading for each lesson.
  • Complete the Self-Test questions for each lesson. You do not need to send us your answers. Please remember that as students preparing for ministry, your calling is not just about gaining knowledge—it’s about developing the character that reflects Christ in all aspects of life. One of the simplest yet most powerful ways to walk in integrity is by honestly and faithfully answering every self-test question in your coursework.
  • As you complete each chapter you need to go to the Activity Feed and post a comment about something that interested or impacted you as you worked through the lesson. Your comment needs to be well thought out and consist of at least fifty (50) words. Lesson 1
OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this chapter you will be able to: Define management by objectives. Explain the importance of management by objectives. Deal with opposition to management by objectives. KEY VERSE: Let all things be done decently and in order. (I Corinthians 14:40)

Lesson 2
OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this chapter you will be able to: Explain the divine purpose of God. Explain why it is important to understand God's purpose and plans. Identify the instruments through which God accomplishes His purpose and plans. Explain how the ministry of Jesus related to God's purpose and plans. Explain the ministry of the Holy Spirit as it relates to God's purpose and plans. Explain the ministry of the Church as it relates to God's purpose and plans. KEY VERSES: Having made known unto us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He hath purposed in Himself; That in the dispensation of the fullness of times, He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in Heaven, and which are on earth, even in Him. (Ephesians 1:9-10)

Lesson 3
OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this chapter you will be able to: Define the term "statement of purpose.” Explain the importance of purpose. Explain the difference between purpose and objectives. Explain the difference between a Statement of Purpose and a Doctrinal Statement. Write a Statement of Purpose. List ways purpose can be communicated to others. KEY VERSES: ...Live purposefully and worthily and accurately... Making the very most of the time--buying up each opportunity--because the days are evil. (Ephesians 5:15-16) The Amplified Bible

Lesson 4
OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this chapter you will be able to: Define the word "objective.” Explain the difference between purpose and objectives. Identify two basic kinds of objectives. Discuss the importance of objectives. Explain the difference between long-range and short-range objectives. Explain how to select objectives. Write personal ministry objectives. Write objectives for corporate ministry. Evaluate objectives you have written. KEY VERSE: And that servant, which knew his Lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to His will, shall be beaten with many stripes. (Luke 12:47)

Lesson 5
OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this chapter you will be able to: Define "procedures.” Discuss the following steps of implementing a plan: Selecting Communicating Delegating Training Organizing Scheduling Budgeting Decision making Reviewing Evaluating Explain the parables of the wineskins and garments. KEY VERSE: Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have. (II Corinthians 8:11)

Lesson 6
OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this chapter you will be able to: Define "evaluation.” Discuss why evaluation is important. Establish an evaluation procedure. Evaluate plans you have implemented. Identify reasons why plans fail. Use the results of your evaluation to improve existing plans and make new plans. KEY VERSE: For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. (Romans 12:3)
