Responding like a Berean
One of the goals for our Online Bible Institute is to offer courses that look at the major doctrinal positions of Christianity from a number of different viewpoints. Rather than just stick to our own “party line” we want to encourage our students to look at all sides with an open mind. Our hope in offering courses that present all sides of an issue is that our students will look to the Word of God as the final authority on every issue without just resting solely on denominational teaching or tradition. Having our beliefs challenged from time to time encourages us to dig deeper into the Word and allow the Holy Spirit to illuminate and guide us into all truth. We hope that this will lead to developing the positive character traits in studying the scripture that were attributed to the Bereans in Acts 17:10-12: 10 The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the Jewish synagogue. 11 Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of the mind, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. 12 Many of them therefore believed; also of the prominent Greek women, and not a few men.
